What this site is about
We (the authors of this site are French natives living in London, and Villefranche is our little escape — a charming flat in the heart of the Old Town that we call our home away from home.
We’re not locals (especially in the eyes of locals!), but we’ve spent many seasons here — soaking up the rhythms of village life, sharing cafés with neighbors, and chatting with fellow visitors.
Over the years, we’ve noticed that many travelers only spend a couple of days in Villefranche, often using Nice or Cannes as a base to explore the wider Riviera. And most come between April and September.
But we believe Villefranche deserves more time — and more love! It’s just as magical in autumn and winter, when the streets are quiet, the sea is still, and the village feels even more like your own.

Villefranche in a nutshell

Tucked between Nice and Monaco on the glittering French Riviera, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a postcard-perfect seaside village where pastel façades meet turquoise waters. Known for its colorful old town, scenic harbor, and laid-back charm, it’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time wandering cobbled lanes, sipping rosé on sunny terraces, or simply watching the boats drift by.
Just a 15-minute train ride from Nice, Villefranche offers a more peaceful, authentic escape — with all the glamor of the Côte d’Azur within easy reach. Whether you’re lounging at Plage des Marinières, exploring the historic Citadel, or enjoying fresh seafood by the water on the Harbor, it’s a place that effortlessly combines charm, history, and that carefree Riviera vibe.
In high season (April to September), the village comes alive with travelers, open-air cafés, local events, and balmy beach days — it’s vibrant and buzzing, especially in July and August.
In low season, Villefranche slows down. Autumn brings golden light and quiet streets, while winter offers a rare Riviera calm — perfect for peaceful walks, cozy dinners, and soaking up the village like a local.
No matter the season, Villefranche has a way of capturing hearts — and making it very hard to leave.
